The crazy idea to start up Birdie’s came about organically one afternoon on a walk with my sister and our new baby girls. With an educational background in journalism and art, no business concept or model or plan, I began concocting a recipe for the sugar cookie I felt worthy to sell. Much to the delight of my father, taste testing got well underway and soon my friends, neighbors and anyone with a willing palette became a test subject and/or nightly visitor.
I won’t tell you how long it took me to devise the perfect recipe or how many ingredients were added and then cut, but I will tell you that my cookies, tarts and scones contain no added sodium, preservatives, or trace of peanuts (I’m allergic).
I am often asked, “Why the name Birdie’s?”, and while the origin of the name is a story for another day, Birdie is my childhood nickname. We are located in Salt Lake City, Utah and I continue to act as the head pastry chef (with three little ones in tow).
This is my beginning!
